4 Benefits Of Pole-Mounted Transformers

by Mia Kuhn

Transformers can be mounted on either pads or poles. Both types of transformers can be useful, and both types have their benefits. Pole-mounted transformers are a favorite among many people for a few specific reasons, though, such as the three reasons below.

1. They're Often More Affordable

When you're buying a transformer, you probably already expect to spend a significant amount of money. Making certain choices when choosing a transformer, however, can help you save a significant amount. Along with not buying a transformer that is larger than what is needed, you can also opt for a pole-mounted transformer to try to save money.

2. They Can Be Moved More Easily

Transformers that are installed on concrete pads are generally more permanent, and there is more involved with moving them if they do need to be moved. Of course, you might be planning to keep your new transformer in the same place in the long term, but there might come a time when you need to move it. If this happens, then it will probably be easier to move the transformer if it's installed on a pole rather than if it's installed on a concrete pad.

3. They Can Be Installed More Quickly

If concrete has to be poured for a pad that a transformer will be installed on top of, then you may have to go through a waiting period to have the concrete pad poured. This can add to the length of time that you have to wait for the transformer to be installed. Poles can be installed in just one day, though, and you might even have existing poles that can be used for your transformer installation. Because of this, transformers that are mounted to poles can often be installed and therefore put to use a lot more quickly.

4. They Don't Take Up Space on the Ground

In areas where there is plenty of ground space that can be used, the amount of space that a transformer on a pad takes up might not be a big deal. If there is very limited space, though, which is often the case in urban areas, then choosing pole-mounted transformers that do not take up a lot of space on the ground might be what makes the most sense. In fact, in places with a particularly limited amount of space, pole-mounted transformers might be the only thing that works.
