What Are The Different Kinds Of Scaffolding?

by Mia Kuhn

If you are in the business of construction, interior design, exterior painting, or even if you have your own window-cleaning business, there is one piece of equipment you will need the most: scaffolding. Scaffolding gives users a high-rise platform for performing their task, and it proves to be incredibly valuable in a work setting. However, there are many different types of scaffolding out there to pick from, and it can be difficult to know exactly what to get for your intended purposes. Here is a look at some of the different types of scaffolding available and a general description of each to give you a good idea of what you need.

Multifunctional Scaffolding - Multifunctional scaffolding is probably one of the most commonly used forms of scaffolding out there. This scaffolding tends to be smaller in size, so it is more portable and versatile, but still can be stacked to multiple heights, and can also hold a substantial amount of weight. Multifunctional scaffolding usually has wheels on the legs for easy portability, and it will likely have a ladder to access the platform.

Trestle Scaffolding - Trestle scaffolding is a little rarer than some of the other types, so you may not run across this type of scaffolding as often. The general design of the trestle scaffolding consists of A-frame supports and a beam across the middle that is used as a platform. Trestle-style scaffolding is sometimes fashioned on the fly from two ladders, one at each end, and a support plank or beam laid across the standing platforms of the two ladders. But you can also buy trestle scaffolding that is actually designed to go in place in the same way.

Suspended Scaffolding - If there is no room on the ground for scaffolding to be set up or the height that needs to be reached is substantially high, it is logical to opt for suspended scaffolding. Suspended scaffolding does not have a support base that you set up on the ground; instead, it is suspended from ropes, chains, or cables from the top of a structure. In most cases, the suspended scaffolding is designed so that the height can be adjusted with a pulley system by the person who is standing on the scaffolding platform.

In the end, finding the right kind of scaffolding will make all the difference in how well you are able to perform your projects. Talk to an equipment sales center for more information about the different types of scaffolding available.
