Low Budget Remodeling Projects That Make A Statement

by Mia Kuhn

Remodeling is expensive, especially if you have champagne taste and a beer budget. It can seem impossible to get all of your projects done that you want without breaking the bank. The good news is there are some remodeling projects you can get done without the hefty cost, and you can do them yourself if you're handy with tools. See below for some low budget remodeling projects that will make a statement in your kitchen.

Airstone Wall Or Backsplash

Use Airstone, which is a lightweight faux stone that you can use either inside or outside of your home. Use it in your kitchen for backsplash or as an accent wall on your island. It's very simple to install, all you need is a hacksaw, a caulk gun and some adhesive (see manufacturer's instructions for the type). Apply the adhesive to the back of a piece of Airstone and apply it to your wall or backsplash. Alternate the seams to give it a varied and more natural look. You'll be left with an expensive looking wall or backsplash without the huge price-tag.

Paint Cabinets

Painting your cabinets can give you a brand new look to your kitchen without the hefty price of purchasing new cabinets. Paint is a great option if your cabinets are still in good shape, but you aren't too thrilled about the color or look of your cabinets.

  1. Start by taking off the cabinet doors, take out drawers and remove all hardware. Be sure to mark the doors and drawers with numbers so you know where they belong.
  2. Next, clean your cabinets thoroughly with a strong cleaner such as TSP to remove grease and other hard to remove dirt, then rinse them to remove the cleaner.
  3. Priming the cabinets is a crucial step to prevent the paint from peeling off and to give the paint something to adhere to.
  4. Finally, paint the cabinets, being sure to take your time to prevent leaving streaks from the brush or roller.
  5. Allow the paint to dry before reattaching the hardware on the cabinet doors and drawers, then replace the doors and drawers into the kitchen.

Pantry Door

Trade out that boring pantry door and replace it with something different such as a door with a frosted glass insert, or a solid door with barn door hardware so it slides to open instead of being on a hinge. You can also paint the pantry door with chalkboard paint to give you a place to write the weekly menu or your grocery list.

These are just a few small budget remodeling ideas you can do to your kitchen to make a big statement. For larger remodeling projects that may be out of your league (but still in your budget), call a professional kitchen remodeling company, like Kavin Construction, for help.
